Beta Psi Alumnae Blog Post - Brenna Pease (Murphy)

Q: Where are you from?

Louisville, KY, but don’t worry I’m a CATS fan

Q: What was your degree in and what do you do for a living today?

I majored in Interior Design and I am an Interior Designer at an architecture firm that specializes in corporate office design.

Q: Where and when did you join Alpha Delta Pi?

I came home to ADPi at the University of Kentucky, Beta Psi Chapter, fall 2010 - best decision ever!

Q: Did you have any officer roles while in the chapter?

Yes - I was Director of Facility Management (‘11), Vice President of Membership Experience (‘12), and Chapter President (‘13).

Q: How did ADPi set you up for success after graduation?

My sisters were smart, driven and creative and they encouraged me to be the best version of myself. I was surrounded by so many incredible women in the chapter that it really helped to build up my self confidence. As a chapter officer I learned how to manage a team and budget, practice public speaking in front of 200+ chapter members, organize events, send clear emails, and stay organized to submit deadlines on time - these are all skills I still use today. An ADPi alumnae connected me to my first internship, which led to my current job. I lived with two Auburn ADPis when I first moved to Nashville and Beta Psi sisters introduced me to my husband and now we have a beautiful baby boy (thank you sisters ! ! !).

Q: What made you choose to continue your involvement in ADPi through advising?

While I was a chapter member I had incredible advisors who mentored and encouraged me as a leader. I looked up to them so much (and still do!). Being an advisor today allows me to give back a tiny bit of what ADPi has given me. I love getting to cheer on current chapter officers and offer support and guidance throughout the year. The pandemic allowed for virtual advising to become more accessible so my role consists of a lot of zoom / facetime calls, texts and reviewing meeting minutes from Nashville. Beta Psi also has a great group of alumnae advisors and it is fun to catch up with old friends and reminisce on our college glory days. We are so proud of how strong the chapter still is today!

Q: What is a favorite story you have from your time in the chapter?

I have so many amazing memories from my time as an ADPi - it’s hard to pick! I loved the everyday moments of eating ADPI delight (peppermint oreo ice cream) in the dining room, studying in the basement, attending chapter meetings, practicing dances for recruitment skits or Greek Sing, and everything in-between.

One hilarious story that stands out, during Primary Recruitment 2013, a sister decided to play a little prank on me (she will know who she is if she reads this). She posted my phone number on Craig’s List and said that I was giving away a free miniature donkey named Jessabelle who was two years old (she even posted pictures) because I was moving to New York and she wouldn’t fit in my studio loft. She even threw in a free saddle! I was helping the recruitment team and I started to get call after call from Kentucky farm owners who wanted to give Jessabelle a good home. I had no idea what was going on! After a few hours she finally showed me the post and we had a good laugh. My family and I still laugh about it to this day!

I also loved getting to surprise my little sister, Erin Harris (Murphy), at her Bid Day in 2015. I graduated the year before, but drove up from Nashville to meet her at the ADPi house. It was such an emotional moment running up to her and I have loved that we have gotten to share our ADPi experience together!
