As I enter my senior year of college, I can not help but smile. I always thought about this moment and how I would feel. Being the oldest on campus, figuring out what is next while also trying to have a fun senior year, experiencing all of the senior traditions, etc. Through everything college has given me, I will always be thankful for Alpha Delta Pi being a constant.

To the PNM stressing out about recruitment, I wish I was you. I know that sounds crazy and I know you are ready to find a home, but I wish I was you. You have so much ahead of you and you don’t even know it yet. I remember being in your place, feeling anxious about meeting new people and being in a different environment. It is scary, but the possibilities that result from stepping outside your comfort zone are incredible. There are two things that I would say to Freshman year Kate. The first thing is, “You are going to make it. You are going to find the people that root for your accomplishments everyday. You are going to find the friends that make you feel at home.” September 3, 2019 was just the beginning of believing this.

The second thing that I would say to Freshman year Kate is, “Follow your gut and take chances.” It is your decision on how you are going to spend your four years in college and in a sorority. You can either stand on the sidelines and watch people do the things you long to do, or you can become that person that would make younger you proud. The girls in ADPi want to see you succeed. They want you to become the greatest version of you. Throughout my time in ADPi, I have encountered many role models that have pushed and inspired me to take more chances. You will always end up in the place you are supposed to be in with the right people by your side.

Flash forward to now and the reasons I can’t help but smile. If only Freshman year Kate knew she would be living in a house with six of her best friends that she met freshman year. If only Freshman year Kate knew she would be a part of organizations and clubs that bring her so much joy and friendships. If only Freshman year Kate knew that she is going to make it, find her cheerleaders and find those friends that she can’t let go of.

Alpha Delta Pi is the reason. It is the greatest thing I’ve ever had the privilege of being a part of. I am so excited to see what senior year has in store for me, but there is one thing I want to tell Senior year Kate. “Enjoy.”
