My Top 10 Tips for Recruitment

  1. Wear what you feel most confident in! I promise you that your outfit is not what matters – it’s your heart! You should wear clothes that show your style and personality. Also, wear comfortable shoes. If recruitment is in-person (fingers crossed), you will be doing a lot of walking!

  2. Bring a purse or small bag that contains the essentials: lipstick/chapstick, hand sanitizer, a snack, your recruitment booklet, and a pen! Also, stay ~hydrated~. Whether recruitment is in-person or virtual, you will want water after your conversations.

  3. Go into recruitment with an open mind! Rather than having your sights set on one sorority, approach recruitment with eagerness to get to know all the awesome sisterhoods on UK’s campus.

  4. Confide in your Gamma Chi! Gamma Chis are Panhellenic women who have been through the recruitment process. They are there to encourage you and talk with you about the highs and lows of recruitment. If you lean on your Gamma Chi, I promise you will gain a new friend and mentor.

  5. Text your mom/dad/sibling/trusted friend, or write down your precise thoughts after you leave each house. This will help you remember everything you were feeling, which comes in handy when making decisions.

  6. If you are feeling a little nervous about recruitment, take a few deep breaths and just know that recruiters (including myself) are just as nervous as you are!

  7. Ask questions! If there is something on your mind, don’t hesitate to honestly ask it. Not only does this answer your curiosities, but it also helps the flow of the conversation!

  8. As the rounds progress, look at the lines in front of each house you return to. Those girls could potentially be your sisters. Ask yourself if they are the girls you want to surround yourself with over the next four years. (If recruitment is virtual, check out the participants on Zoom and see if you recognize any familiar names of awesome girls you already know.)

  9. Be yourself. Authenticity is the most important thing you can bring to recruitment. We just want to know you, your heart, and your values. Don’t worry about presenting yourself a certain way or saying the right things… if you focus on being yourself, you will have an amazing recruitment experience.

  10. Make your own decision. Recruitment is all about finding your home for the next four years. Your favorite house may not be your friend’s or roommate’s choice, and that is okay. The sisterhood you pick should be the place that makes you happy, brings out the best in you, and pushes you to your fullest potential.

BONUS TIP: You are awesome, unique, and one-of-a-kind. Whatever sisterhood you choose will be so lucky to have you and all the amazing talents, gifts, and qualities you have to offer. Never forget that!

I hope these tips help you during the recruitment process and give you some extra encouragement! Though recruitment can be stressful, it is a transformative time that will truly change your life for the better. Throughout the recruitment process, you will make memories, experience growth, and gain so many awesome friendships -- both in your sisterhood and in the Panhellenic community. Thanks to recruitment, I found my best friends and the most supportive community in ADPi, and I promise you will find the same wherever you choose to go.
