It is no secret that recruitment is known as the time of year that every woman in the panhellenic community looks forward to, and for many, it becomes their very favorite part of their sisterhood. As for me, it was my purpose in Alpha Delta Pi.
I’ve heard it said a million times before, and have even said it myself - the women behind the azure blue door will wholeheartedly change your life without even trying. However, little did I know, the woman that changed my life was someone who walked through the blue front door for her very first time. I can recall the exact moment I met Becca Borne. It was my sophomore year and my very first time recruiting, I was nervous to be hundreds of PNM’s first impression of ADPi, and try my best to show them just how special our sisterhood truly is within such a short conversation. But during sisterhood round in the fall of 2021, there was a short little blonde girl sitting across from me in a white fold-up chair that showed me what the ADPi sisterhood truly was before she was even an ADPi herself. From that conversation on, I knew she was going to change my life. The next week, Becca ran home to me at 476 Rose Street, and shortly after that, to no surprise, we were big and little. We became inseparable and now I can’t even picture what my life would look like without her. She is my best friend, my future bridesmaid, my number one supporter, and above all the sun on all of my darkest days.
Recruitment was the thing that brought us together, but that was only the beginning. Becca and I got to go through recruitment together the following year, and I got to watch her find her little, and girls that inspired her the same way that she inspired me all these years ago.
Going into my senior year I had the privilege to serve as the Vice President of Recruitment. It was - and remains to be the best experience I had during my time in ADPi. I fell in love with recruitment because I was able to show hundreds of girls the love and support that the sisters of Alpha Delta Pi will bring you. Standing at the blue door welcoming in hundreds of PNM’s and leading the whole recruitment process is at no means an easy task - but rewarding in ways indescribable.
However one of the most special parts of my term was getting to pass along my job to Becca. It is hard for me to believe that in a few short weeks, she will be leading her own recruitment, and bringing a whole new alpha class of ADPi women home, to show them the love and friendship that will without a doubt last a lifetime. I could not be more proud of her, and I could not imagine anyone else representing Beta Psi this fall. Recruitment brought me Becca, and we were able to share our passion for our sisterhood and leadership together, and inspire each other to reach new potentials I don’t think either of us thought possible. Even though now I have graduated, and get to go on to a new journey and new part of life, Becca will always be a part of that. It’s not four years - its a lifetime of friendship, and recruitment was the foundation of that for us.
To all of the PNM’s this fall, and every panhellenic woman going through the recruitment process, go find your Becca Borne.
